What is twill?

Twill is a woven fabric with a visible diagonal rib, made by passing the weft over two or more warp threads in a stepped pattern. It is durable, drapes well and hides soil — the fabric of chinos, cap panels, work trousers, housekeeping tunics and aprons.

Why it matters

It is the woven counterpart to knitted jersey: where a garment needs structure rather than stretch — a cap, an apron, a work trouser — it is usually twill.

On our floor

Cotton twill for caps and aprons; poly-cotton twill at 190–240 gsm for scrubs trousers, tunics and workwear. Embroidery is the natural decoration.

Common questions

Twill or canvas for an apron?
Twill drapes more and is lighter; canvas is stiffer and heavier. Both wear well.
Is twill stretchy?
No — it is woven, not knitted. Stretch twill with spandex exists for trousers.
What weight is cap twill?
Around 300 gsm for a structured cap.
Can twill be printed?
Screen print and DTF, yes; embroidery is the usual choice.
