What we source
Cotton in single jersey, interlock, pique and terry. Polyester and poly-cotton blends for performance and workwear. Brushed fleece from 280 to 550gsm for sweats and hoodies. Cotton twill and canvas for caps, aprons and bags. Ribbed trims, drawcords, tapes and interlinings to match.
Fabric is bought by weight and construction, not by name. Two mills selling 'heavy cotton jersey' can be 40gsm apart, so we quote against a stated gsm and a stated knit, and hold the mill to it.
How fabric is specified
| Weight | Stated in gsm, not in adjectives. 160–550gsm across the range. |
|---|---|
| Composition | 100% cotton, poly-cotton, poly, elastane blends for stretch |
| Knit or weave | Single jersey, interlock, pique, terry, fleece, twill, canvas |
| Colour | Pantone matched. Lab dip approved before bulk on custom dye lots. |
| Minimum for custom dye | 300 metres. Below that we work from stock colours. |
| Testing | Shrinkage, colour fastness and GSM verified on receipt |
Why fabric decides the garment
Most complaints about a finished garment are really complaints about the cloth. A tee that twists after one wash was knit badly. A hoodie that pills was made from short-staple yarn. A polo that fades was dyed to a price. None of that is fixed at the stitching stage.
So we buy fabric first and quote from it, rather than quoting a price and finding the fabric that fits. If your budget will not carry the cloth your design needs, we will say so before you place the order, not after.
Frequently asked questions
- Can you source a specific fabric I have already found?
- Yes. Send a swatch or the mill reference and we will match it or source it directly. If we think there is a better equivalent at the same price, we will show you both.
- What is the minimum for a custom colour?
- 300 metres for a custom dye lot, which is roughly 300–500 garments depending on the style. Below that we work from stock colours, and the stock range is wide.
- Do you test the fabric?
- Yes — shrinkage, colour fastness and gsm are checked on receipt. A mill sending 180gsm against a 200gsm order is a common problem and we catch it before cutting.
- Can I buy fabric without the manufacturing?
- Yes, for bulk quantities. Tell us the specification and the metreage and we will quote it.
- How long does sourcing add?
- Stock fabric adds nothing. Custom dye lots add roughly 7–10 days ahead of production for dyeing and lab dip approval.
