What is DTG Printing?

DTG (Direct-to-Garment) printing machines work just like your office printer with the only difference being that they print onto fabrics instead of paper. The process involves printing designs directly onto the fabric using specialized inkjet technology. Unlike traditional methods like screen printing, DTG printing allows us to print complex, full-color images without the need for stencils or screens. The inks used in DTG printing are absorbed directly into the fabric, creating vibrant, long-lasting designs that are soft to the touch.

This method is especially perfect for custom orders demanding high-resolution artwork and detailed designs, with low order quantities. It is done primarily on cotton-based or linen fabrics that are lighter in shade. CustomClothing.PK ensures that each print is of the highest quality, giving your brand or team apparel a professional and premium finish.

DTG vs. Other Printing Techniques

DTG vs. DTF Printing

DTG (Direct-to-Garment) printing and DTF (Direct-to-Film) printing are both popular custom printing methods, but they differ in their processes and applications. DTG printing directly prints designs onto fabrics, making it ideal for detailed, full-color designs. It excels in soft-to-the-touch prints that maintain fabric flexibility. In contrast, DTF printing involves printing a design onto a special film, which is then transferred to fabric using heat and pressure.

DTF printing is more versatile across a range of fabric types, including polyester, blends, and darker fabrics. While DTG is perfect for highly detailed, small-run designs on natural fabrics like cotton and linen. DTF offers better durability and affordability, especially for multi-design prints, making it ideal for larger runs with a wider variety of fabric choices.

DTG vs. Screen Printing

DTG printing and screen printing are two of the most popular methods for custom apparel, but they serve different purposes. Screen printing involves creating stencils and applying layers of ink onto fabric, making it ideal for large, solid-color designs and bulk orders. While screen printing is cost-effective for mass production, it requires significant setup time and isn’t as flexible with intricate details or color gradients. On the other hand, DTG printing directly prints high-resolution, full-color designs onto garments, making it perfect for smaller runs and complex, multi-colored prints.

Unlike screen printing, DTG doesn’t require stencils, allowing for more design flexibility and quick turnaround. DTG printing is best suited for detailed and custom designs, while screen printing excels in large volumes with simpler designs.

DTG vs. Sublimation Printing

While both DTG printing and sublimation printing produce vibrant, full-color prints, they differ in their application and fabric compatibility. DTG printing works by directly printing ink onto fabric, which is ideal for cotton-based garments like t-shirts and hoodies. It provides detailed designs with excellent color accuracy, and the print is absorbed into the fabric, offering a soft feel. Sublimation printing, however, works by turning dye into gas and bonding it with polyester fibers. This makes sublimation perfect for polyester fabrics and light-colored garments, offering bright, all-over prints that won’t crack or fade.

While DTG printing is versatile with fabric types and works well for cotton, sublimation printing excels with synthetic materials and is more durable on polyester fabrics, making it ideal for sportswear or performance gear.

Expert Tips

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for DTG printing?

Our minimum order requirement is 50 pieces, making it ideal for larger projects and bulk orders. This ensures you have the flexibility to bring your creative ideas to life without limitations.

How long will the print last?

Our prints outlast when you take good care of the product by following our guide for longevity. We recommend using Cold Water for washing, turning the garment inside out, line drying, and avoiding any bleach.

How long will it take to complete my order?

We generally require 10-14 business days for bulk manufacturing to ensure the highest quality and attention to detail in every order. Delivery times may vary depending on your location and the product you order.

Can I order a sample before ordering bulk?

We will produce a sample free of charge with any production order. However: free pre-production samples cannot be created until we have received the production order deposit.

If you would like a sample before putting in a production order, we can accommodate that request — but will have to charge for the sample.
