What is country of origin?
Country of origin is the country where the garment was substantially made — for a cut-and-sew garment, where it was cut and sewn. It determines the duty rate at import and, in most markets, must appear on the garment: 'Made in Pakistan' on a label in the US, Canada and Australia; customary in the UK and EU; required in Arabic in the Gulf.
Why it matters
It is both a compliance requirement and a brand decision. Some brands lead with it — the cotton, the factory, the story; some place it discreetly on the care label. Both are legal; hiding it is not.

- Do I have to say 'Made in Pakistan'?
- In the US, Canada and Australia the origin must be on the garment. In the UK and EU it is customary and expected by customs. Placement is your choice.
- Can the origin be on the hangtag instead?
- It must be on a permanent label in most markets; the hangtag can repeat it.
- Does origin affect duty?
- Yes — Pakistani origin gives duty-free entry to the UK and EU.
- What if fabric is imported?
