What is import duty?
Import duty is the tax a destination country charges on goods entering it, as a percentage of their value. For garments made in Pakistan it varies enormously by destination: zero into the UK and EU under trade preference schemes, around 5% into the Gulf and Australia, 16–32% into the US depending on fibre, and around 18% into Canada.
Why it matters
It changes the landed cost of the same hoodie by up to a third depending on where it is going — and it is the reason Pakistani-made garments are unusually competitive in the UK and EU. It is quoted up front with the order, and on DDP terms it is built into one delivered price.

- Is there duty on clothing from Pakistan into the UK?
- No — most Pakistani garments enter the UK duty-free under the Developing Countries Trading Scheme. We confirm the tariff line on the quote.
- Into the EU?
- No — duty-free under GSP+, subject to rules of origin, which Pakistani-made garments meet.
- Into the US?
- Yes — typically 16.5% on cotton knit tees and hoodies, up to 32% on synthetics. Quoted up front with the order, so there is no surprise on arrival.
- Into the Gulf?
- 5% GCC common tariff, plus VAT where applicable.
