Can I add more pieces after placing an order?
Before cutting begins, yes — the final quantity is confirmed with you at that point, and pieces added before it simply join the run. After cutting, additional pieces are a new run and are quoted as one. Because the design is already approved and on file, that reorder carries none of the original setup, so it is smaller and quicker than the first.
Why cutting is the line
Fabric is laid in plies on the cutting table and every pattern piece for every size in the order is cut at once from a marker made for that exact breakdown. Once that has happened, adding twenty pieces means laying fabric again, making a marker again, cutting again — a run in its own right, however small. Before it has happened, twenty more pieces are twenty more rows on the marker.
How a top-up works
Tell us the quantity and sizes. Because the pattern, artwork, screens or digitising, colour and labels are already approved, a top-up of an existing design has no setup and can often go below the usual minimum — a top-up of 30 pieces of a design we have already made is normal. If the original run is still in production, we will often be able to add the pieces to the same dispatch; if it has shipped, the top-up ships on its own. Pricing follows the rate sheet at the time, at the quantity of the top-up.
Related questions
- Is the minimum lower for a top-up?
- Often, yes — the setup has been paid for once, so we can be more flexible on an approved design.
- Will the top-up match the original?
- Same pattern, same artwork file, same colour recipe. Stock-colour fabric can vary slightly between rolls, which we tell you if it applies.
- Can I add a different garment to an existing order?
- It is a new run of its own with its own minimum, but it can ship with the original if the timing works.
- Will a top-up cost the same per piece?
- Setup is not charged again; the per-piece price follows the quantity of the top-up and the rate sheet at the time.
