Sports team kits: jerseys, shorts, training wear — and what a kit costs

Match kit: jersey and shorts, sometimes socks, in home and away colourways, with names, numbers, club crest and sponsor logos. Sublimated for football, cricket, hockey and basketball; the whole design, including the numbers, printed into the fabric before cutting.

Training wear: training tees, quarter-zips or hoodies, joggers, and a rain jacket or windbreaker. Embroidered or screen-printed crest, simpler than the match kit, ordered in higher quantity because every player wears it every session.

Travel and presentation: a polo or a tracksuit for arriving at matches. Embroidered, usually in the club's primary colour.

Goalkeeper, umpire and staff variants within the same order, in contrasting colours.

The design, the numbers, the names and the sponsor logos are all printed into white polyester before the panels are cut, so there is nothing on the surface to crack, peel or catch. Every jersey prints from its own file, which means twenty different names and numbers cost the same per piece as twenty identical jerseys. Colour is unlimited and the print lasts as long as the fabric.

It is also why match kits are cut and sewn to order rather than decorated blanks: the printing happens before the garment exists. A kit is a small cut-and-sew job with a printer in the middle, and that is exactly how our line is arranged.

Squad list with names, numbers and sizes — the single most important document, locked before printing. Home and away colourways, each with the crest and sponsors positioned. Goalkeeper variant. Training wear quantity, usually 1.5 to 2 per player. Delivery date, ideally three weeks before the season.

We produce a digital mockup of the home and away kit for approval, then a physical sample of one jersey and one short for fit and colour. Bulk follows approval. The most common change after sampling is the number font size, which is why the sample exists.

From our current rate sheet at 50 pieces: a fully sublimated football or cricket jersey with names, numbers and sponsors around $16–18; matching shorts around $9–11; a sublimated basketball set around $24–28; a training tee with a screen-printed crest around $11; a quarter-zip with embroidered crest around $32; a tracksuit set quoted around $38–45. A full match kit — jersey and shorts — lands around $26–29 per player at 50, under $22 at 200.

A club of 25 players ordering home and away match kits plus two training tees each is 50 kits and 50 tees — one order around $2,000 before socks and shipping. Placement-print training wear prices live in the calculator; match kits are quoted against the design.
